World Standards Day 2014 Essay Competition
Botswana Bureau of Standards will be celebrating World Standards Day on the 14th October 2014 at BOBS’ headquarters, Gaborone. This day is commemorated each year on the 14th October, which is a means of paying tribute to the collaborative efforts of the thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as international standards. The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness of the importance of standardization to the world economy and promote its role in helping meet the needs of business, industry, government and consumers worldwide. The theme for this year’s celebrations is “Standards level the playing field”, which is a concept about fairness; not that each player has an equal chance to succeed, but that they all play by the same set of rules
World Standards Day provides the perfect opportunity to reflect on the benefits that standards bring to our everyday lives, the market economy and to the smooth running of public affairs.
