13A Plugs BOS 41-1 : 2001-The live and neutral pins on plugs shall have insulated bases to prevent finger contact with pins and also to stop metal sheets (for example, fallen window blind slats) from becoming live if lodged between the wall and a partly pulled out plug. Plugs shall be rated 13 A and voltage shall not exceed 250 V. The words FUSE or FUSED shall be marked on the external accessible surface of a plug. Rewirable plugs shall be provided with adequate instructions for safe connection of appropriate flexible cords.
13A Socket-outlets BOS 41-2: 2001-Socket-outlets shall incorporate shutters on the live and neutral contacts to prevent the insertion of foreign objects into the sockets. This is also of paramount importance to ensure the safety of children. Socket-outlets shall be rated 13 A and voltage shall not exceed 250 V. Portable socket-outlets fitted with a flexible cord shall have colour coding of the cores for the flexible cord. Portable fused socket-outlets shall be supplied with removable tag indicating the rating of the fuse link fitted. Rewirable portable socket-outlets shall be provided with adequate instructions for the safe connection of the appropriate 3-core flexible cord.
13A Adapters BOS 41-3 : 2001-Live & neutral pins shall be fitted with insulating sleeves to prevent finger contact with pins when semi-inserted in the socket. Adaptors shall be rated 13 A and voltage shall not exceed 250 V. For fused adaptors, the words FUSE or FUSED shall be marked on the surface of adaptors. Non-rewirable adaptors shall be marked on the engagement surface with the rated current of the fitted fuse link.
13A fused connection units BOS 41-4 : 2009-Fused connection units shall be rated 13 A and voltage shall not exceed 250 V. The words FUSE or FUSED or the fuse symbol. All connection units shall be marked with the rated current, rated volts, nature of supply, incoming terminal and outgoing terminals. Provision shall be made for a fuse link.
Audio, video and similar electronic apparatus BOS IEC 60065 : 2005-Applies to receiving apparatus for sound or vision, amplifiers, load and source transducers, motor-driven apparatus (radio-gramophones, tape recorders and sound-film projectors, etc.) which are to be connected to the mains, directly or indirectly, and which are intended for domestic and similar indoor use. Name, trademark or identification mark of the manufacturer/ Vendor shall be indicated. They shall be marked with rated supply voltage (or range), symbol for nature of supply, rated frequency (or range). Terminals shall be marked with appropriate symbols for earth; hazardous live and output terminals shall be marked with output voltage. The insulation of hazardous live parts shall not be provided by hygroscopic materials. Instructions and text for use shall be provided in English or Setswana to promote safety during use. Does not apply to apparatus designed for rated supply voltage exceeding 433 V (r.m.s.) between phases in the case of three-phase supply and 250 V (r.m.s.) in all other cases.
Electric irons BOS IEC 60335-2-3 : 2005-Applies to the safety of electric dry irons and steam irons, including those with a separate water reservoir or boiler having a capacity not exceeding 5 l. Rated voltage shall be less or equal to 250 V and Rated power input shall be in (W) or rated current in (A). The name, trademark or identification mark of the manufacturer/ Vendor shall be indicated. The symbol for nature of supply shall be indicated unless rated frequency is marked. Instructions and text for use shall be provided in English or Setswana to promote safety during use. Ironers and industrial appliances are excluded.
Floor treatment machines and wet scrubbing machines BOS IEC 60335-2-10 : 2008-Applies to the safety of electric floor treatment and wet scrubbing machines intended for household and similar purposes. Electrical appliance voltage shall not exceed 250 V. Appliances shall be marked with rated voltage (or range), symbol for nature of supply (or rated frequency). Wire ways shall be smooth and free from sharp edges. Instructions and text for use shall be provided in English or Setswana to promote safety during use.
Storage water heaters BOS IEC 60335-2-21 : 2009-Applies to the safety of electric storage water heaters for household and similar purposes and intended for heating water below boiling temperature, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. Instant waters, water boilers, vending machines and appliances intended for industrial use are excluded.
Sewing Machines BOS IEC 60335-2-28 : 2008-Deals with the safety of electric sewing machines for household and similar use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase and 480 V for other appliances. Sewing machines intended for use by laymen in shops and light industry, are within the scope of this standard. Sewing machines intended exclusively for industrial use are excluded.
Clothes dryers and towel rails BOS IEC 60335-2-43 : 2008-Deals with the safety of electric clothes dryers for drying textiles on racks located in a warm airflow and to electric towel rails, for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. Appliances shall be marked with rated voltage (or range), symbol for nature of supply (or rated frequency). Wire ways shall be smooth and free from sharp edges. Instructions and text for use shall be provided in English or Setswana.
