  Standards Import Inspections Regulations (SIIR)

Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS), a parastatal organization responsible for development of Botswana Standards and coordinating quality assurance activities in Botswana, is in the process of implementing the Standards (Import Inspections) Regulations (SIIR). The SIIR was published on the 12th September 2008 in the Botswana Gazette. The main purpose of SIIR is to control the quality of the prescribed imports as listed in the regulations.

In order to facilitate and foster increased participation and involvement of all stakeholders, BOBS implemented  the SIIR on the 1st April 2009. The Regulation states that ‘no one shall import any commodity prescribed in the SIIR unless that person has applied for and has been issued with a compliance certificate in respect of that commodity’. The Regulation also states that ‘no person shall offload any substandard product into the Botswana market’.
