Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) took the opportunity provided by Global Expo 2010 to meet both existing and potential clients from the 17th to 20th November 2010 at Fairgrounds in Gaborone. The event was graced by participants from many parts of the world, including Bangladesh, Brazil, Ethiopia, India, Japan, Namibia, Poland and South Africa. According to the information provided by BEDIA, more than 100 exhibitors graced the occasion this year.

BOBS’ Ms. Mabiletsa takes a visitor through the ‘Certification Scheme’

The intention of BOBS’ participation at the event was to communicate its services and products to both exhibitors and visitors to the Expo and the traffic to BOBS stand was very encouraging. Most of the clients were interested BOBS Certification Scheme and the Training Program. Prior to the event, some exhibitors had set up business meeting with BOBS to have formal and detailed meetings to discuss standardization and quality-related issues pertinent to their industry. BOBS went out to meet such clients and share information about Standards-related issues.  

The effectiveness of the Global Expo as a marketing and communication tool cannot be over-emphasized because according to BEDIA, ‘around 5000 visitors were recorded as having visited the exhibition throughout the 4 days last year, generating revenues worth $ 8.1 million as at December 2009 from Global Expo Botswana 2009’. With an anticipated improvements in numbers this year, exhibiting at the event this year was worth all the effort. 

The theme for the event this was “Building Strategic Partnerships and opportunities Beyond the Economic Crisis.”
