BOBS AND BNPC SIGN MEMORUNDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) and Botswana National Productivity Centre, (BNPC) on the 8th July 2010 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in accordance with the Presidential Directive CAB 37(B)/2009whish states that the two institutions collaborate on the issues of productivity, quality and standards.
In his opening, BNPC Acting Executive Director Mr Parmod Chandna outlined the obligation this MoU places on BOBS and BNPC in terms of the development of programmes aimed at bringing meaningful; interventions into the country’s economy.

In his opening, BNPC Acting Executive Director Mr Parmod Chandna outlined the obligation this MoU places on BOBS and BNPC in terms of the development of programmes aimed at bringing meaningful; interventions into the country’s economy.
The MoU also mandates that the institutions work together on the mainstreaming activities that are designed to sensitize young people on issues of productivity, quality and standardization.
In a bid to further enhance Governments commitment to promote innovation, speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Minister of Presidential Affairs, the Permanent Secretary Ms Ticky Pule explained that, “Government has taken a deliberate policy decision to initiate a process of reorganizing and repositioning various parastatals in order to achieve optimal synergies and economics of scale as well as greater administrative efficiencies.”

Assistant Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Maxwell Motowane commended the signing of this MoU and said, “This MoU is a measure that keeps up with the government initiative of promoting greater efficiency in the performance of all country’s parastatals and public institutions.”
While BOBS is mandated to drive standardization and quality assurance; and BNPC mandated to raise productivity level consciousness, the MoU states that the two entities will collaborate in the following:
- Training- share training and curriculum as well as jointly plan training and pricing structure.
- Information and Resource Centre Services sharing- Have access to each others resource centres to facilitate information sharing.
- Sharing of facilities – access to conference rooms for public use.
This is a welcome merger and the two entities look forward to this long term formal working relationship.
