BOBS part of ‘Operation Metlhala ya Khumo’ in Gantsi

In an effort to reach out to the wider community and Batswana from all walks of life, Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) on the 5th of June 2010 participated in the Ministry of Trade and Industry outreach programme dubbed ‘Operation: Metlhale ya Khumo’ in Gantsi village in the Gantsi District.

BOBS joined other parastatals and departments within MTI to reach out to the residents of Gantsi. The main purpose of ‘Operation Metlhale ya Khumo’ is to take the services offered by MTI depatments and parastatals to the people and also to share with the public and prospective businesses community, services and programmes that are available to start and grow their enterprises in various sectors of the economy. 
BOBS responded to MTI call to share its services with the community by mounting an exhibition stall in Gantsi with the sole purpose of taking the organization to the people and disseminating much needed information to the public; both the general public and the business community.

Hordes of Gantsi residents who visited the stall were given information about the mandate of BOBS and its relevance in their daily lives. They were also told that standards are important as they ensure that products and services are of good quality, environmentally friendly and reliable. Members of the public were further informed by the BOBS staff that the organization offers services such as testing of goods, certification of products, industrial and verification and calibration, quality management systems, environmental management systems, training and many others.

The benefits of standards outlined to the business community as having direct impact on the new products, stimulate competition and removing barriers of trade. Business persons were further encouraged to utilize services offered by BOBS.
