The year began on high note for Systems and Information Technology (SIT) (Pty) LTD as they received their BOS ISO 9001:2008 certificate.

BOBS VERIFICATION STICKERS
This sticker is proof that a weighing or measuring instrument, that it is affixed to, has been examined, verified and tested as prescribed in the Weights and Measures Act 2006 and found to be either correct or incorrect.
The verification sticker indicates, through a check -mark on the field marked with “Assized” and “Rejected”, whether the instrument has been released for use in trade, or whether its use is prohibited.

WEIGHTS & MEASURES CERTICATE OF COMPETENCY HOLDERS
The following list comprises of Weights and Measures Certificate of Competency holders, who have been issued these certificates in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act, 2006 and its Regulations of 2007 by the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) for the installation and repair of instruments, weights and measures.
Instruments which are used for trade purposes must only be repaired by the holder of certificate of competency. Any person who has been granted certificate of competency would have the knowledge of the Weights and Measures Act, 2006 and its Regulations of 2007 as well as knowledge to mends, repair and service instrument weigh or measure which the certificate has been issued for.

BOCCIM NORTHERN TRADE FAIR - 2008
The Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS) once again participated at the BOCCIM Northern Trade Fair held May 22-25, 2008 in Francistown. The objective of participation was to continuously increase awareness, encourage stakeholders to fully utilize services such as training, testing, sale of standards, laboratory, certification, trade and industrial metrology and participation of the public in standards formulation. The BOBS participation also helps to inform customers of the existence of the BOBS Francistown Branch

BOBS COMMEMORATES WORLD METROLOGY DAY
Botswana Bureau of Standards joined the global community to commemorate the World Metrology Day 2008. The theme for this year ‘Measurement in Sport’ recognises the importance of reliable measurement in sport, in view of the fact that measurements are used to determine the outcome of a sporting event. As 2008 is the Olympic year, the accuracy of measurement are as important to the sports men and women, as a sport event such as 100m race can be lost by a hundredth of a second.
In commemorating this important day the BOBS soccer team played against Geoflux soccer team on 17th May 2008 to create awareness on measurements relevance to sport.
On the 20th May, the internationally designated date for World Metrology Day, Jwaneng Town known for its diamond mines was a place to be at. BOBS with students and teachers from Jwaneng Schools and other sports’ persons paraded the streets of Jwaneng to enlighten the public about the importance of World Metrology Day.

The Botswana Bureau of Standards’ (BOBS) boardroom was glittering with smiles as BOBS handed over the fourth licence to use the Standard Mark to Kwena Rocla. The licence was issued to the company for compliance of their kerbs with a Botswana standard, BOS 103: 2005 Pre-cast concrete kerbs, edgings and channels- Specifications. The day was an important for BOBS in its short history as it celebrated the issuance of its eighteenth licence.
