APPOINTS A MANAGING DIRECTOR
Dr Elsie Meintjies,Managing
Director of the Botswana Bureau of Standards.
Dr Elsie Meintjies has been appointed as the Managing Director of the Botswana
Bureau of Standards with effect from January 1, 2007.
Dr Meintjies, a South African citizen, brings to BOBS a wealth of experience
gained from a varied and interesting career in South Africa which spans
twenty-five years, and includes Directorship on a number of Boards namely:
National Laboratory Accreditation Service (NLA), Board of Agrément South
Africa, South African National Accreditation Service (SANAS), Global Conformity
Services (Pty) Ltd and SABS Certification (Pty) Ltd.
Her experience includes strategic development & management of national,
regional and international certification business, materials testing, chemical
analysis and chemical research, project management, developing, implementing
and auditing of accredited laboratory quality systems.
She has worked for CSIR as a Chief Research Officer, Rand Water as a Head of the
Organic Chemistry Unit, Manager Chemical Sciences and Manager of Special
Projects, Vereeniging Refractories as Research & Development Manager and
occupied a number of senior management positions at the South African Bureau of
Standards (SABS).
Dr Meintjies has published several publications in international scientific
journals and presented at local and international conferences. She is a Fellow
of the Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) and a Member of the South
African Chemical Institute (SACI) and was actively involved in these
professional bodies serving terms of office after being elected as the
President of the Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) and President of the
South African Chemical Institute (SACI). She has served as Chairperson of
Southern African Association of the Certification Bodies (SAACB).
She holds a Ph.D degree in Organometallic Chemistry from the University of
Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, a Post Graduate Certificate in
Management from Henley Open University and an Advanced Executive Programme,
School of Business Leadership, University of South Africa.
