Botswana Bureau of Standards, BOBS, recently awarded their long service employees with certificates and gifts at a ceremony that also marked the end of year Christmas party. Men and women came clad in beautiful clothes to receive their 5 and 10 year awards of dedicated service respectively. 26 people got awards for ten years and 16 got awards for 5 years.
Speaking at the glamorous ceremony held at the BOBS office, Dr. Elsie Meintjies, BOBS Managing Director, said the awards were held in order to recognize the good performance and dedication of the employees. “We have amongst us here tonight, employees who have been with this company since its inception, and it for the hard work that we are thanking them,” she said.
Meintjies said the company is persevering because they stick to the company values, which are Diligence, Innovative, Transparency, Team spirit, and Social responsibility, DITTS. Other than the long service awards, deserving officers were also awarded certificates for DITTS with Bill Hamathi getting two certificates for Diligence and Innovative, Ndebombuya Mokaloba getting the Transparency certificate, Reginah Sarumi with Team Spirit and Bagomi Morapedi getting the Social Responsibility certificate.

To the delight of the employees, Meintjies announced during the ceremony that their training programmes have been approved by Botswana Training Authority, BOTA. BOTA is a governing body tasked with monitoring and regulating vocational education in Botswana. She lamented that being accredited to BOTA meant that they could now start to vigorously educate the nation about standards.
“This is not time for long speeches. This is the winding down time and enjoying ourselves after a long year of working,” she said, much to the ululations and joy of the employees. Let the feast begin.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Banny Molosiwa, commended all employees for their hard work in ensuring that standards are put in place and adhered to by the general public.
“I can assure you ladies and gentlemen, you will soon be overwhelmed with work when government starts on merger projects that are soon to start,” she said. Molosiwa said more work was coming BOBS way in standardising equipment and other staff when big projects like the Mmamabula and others aimed at citizen economic empowerment start.
